Commercial Market Focus – September 2017
The Westpac-Melbourne Institute Consumer Sentiment Index fell by 1.2% in August to 95.5 moving further into pessimistic territory. As the difference between consumer and business sentiment continues to widen, the AiG-PMI jumped a strong 3.8 points to 59.8 in August, the highest level since 2002. The D&B Business Expectation was steady in the latest survey and Actuals rose slightly while the W-MI Leading Index recovered from its sharp fall last month with minus 0.56% to minus 0.10% in July. Indications are that the divergence between consumers and business appears to be widening.
